The right real estate agent can help you to sell your home quickly or to buy your dream home. However, the wrong agent can mess up the deal and make you lose money and time. Here are red flags to watch out for when choosing an agent to work with.

In case you’re offering to sell your home, get listing presentations from at least three agents. They will let you know what similar homes have sold for. A home will ultimately sell for less or take a longer time to sell if the starting price is too high.

The agent does real estate as a part time job.

It is not a good idea to hire an agent who is not following the market on a fulltime basis. As a buyer, choose an agent who will always be available to show you new listings as quickly as possible. A seller should also work with an agent that will always be available to show their property to potential buyers.

The agent has little or no knowledge of your region.

As a buyer or seller, working with an agent who has little or no knowledge of that geographical area can be difficult.

The agent is a poor negotiator.

Avoid working with an agent who cannot negotiate effectively or keep up with details of the deal.

Whether you are a buyer or seller, you should pay close attention to details when choosing the right real estate agent to work with.
